Beer is Good for So Many Things!

By

In many cities, they have a time each year when they throw a party. I’m not talking about Christmas. Or Mardi Gras. This party is to celebrate---beer. Yes, you heard correctly. Whole cities come together to celebrate what many people consider a lip-puckering way to forget their troubles.

Beer isn’t for everyone. It is a fun drink, to be sure. It is fun to watch as beer sloshes into a glass, foaming up until you think it will explode over the rim. It is even fun to feel the bubbles, as beer tickles your upper lip while you drink. For many people, it has a fun taste, too. But there are a lot of folks who just don’t get it. These people ask, “Why, if beer tastes---and smells---like rotting fruit, do people seem to like it so much?” Here are a few answers to the question which has puzzled non-beer drinkers for centuries. This will answer why so many people think beer is good.

Why people like beer:

Surprisingly, some people simply like the taste. They admit it is an acquired taste, and to learn to like beer, one should start with a very good, expensive beer, that isn’t too strong. Then the taste buds can become acclimated enough to move to beers with more “body”.

But there’s more to beer than its taste.

Beer is good for you.

If you can ignore that little bulge, the beer belly, then you can take advantage of beer’s benefits to your body. We have heard for years that wine is good for us. Well, it turns out that beer, if taken in moderation---about 2 cups daily---can help men reduce the likelihood of heart disease. And it doesn’t stop there. That happy sip you have been taking every day can also help reduce the possibility of stroke and vascular disease, which is a cardiovascular disease primarily affecting the blood vessels.

Stunned? Just wait. There’s more.

Remember that can of beer that you left out the other night? After getting up in the morning, you had to throw out an almost full can of beer because flat beer is useless.

Flat beer is a wonder worker.

If you have a garden of any size, with any appreciable amount of rainfall, you know what slugs are. They are pesky little creatures that sneak up on your plants while you sleep and nibble away your hard work. Just take a tuna can and fill it with beer, sprinkling crushed eggshells around the can. Slugs love beer, whether it’s flat or not. The slugs that make it to the beer end up drowning. The slugs that only head toward the beer, but don’t get into the can, get cut by the eggshells and die. Try it. It works.

Beer Hair Conditioner

Or you can take that flat beer and use it on your just-washed and conditioned hair. You don’t need to do any fancy massaging. Just pour it over your hair and rinse it out. Then put on sunglasses, while you hair blinds everyone with how shiny it is.

So even if you aren’t crazy about the taste of beer, I guess you could say that one way or another, it is good for you.
