How To Get Rid of Fleas From Your Home Naturally
63Introduction: Don't blame Fido for the fleas! Sure, he may have brought it inside the house, but it isn't all his fault. The best thing for you to do right now is just to start disinfecting your home in order to get rid of those pesky fleas. Here are some ways for you to eliminate them of them naturally.
Difficulty: 4
Things You'll Need: tea or floating candles, small bowls or dishes, some dish washing soap, cleaning materials
Step 1. Give Fido the anti - flea treatment. If you have house fleas, then there's a big chance that it's Fido (or Sassy the cat) who brought in these nasty pets. So treat him first before cleaning up the rest of your house.
Step 2 . After you've made sure that you've treated your dog or cat, you can now move on and clean the rest of the house. Make sure to do these simultaneously, or at least right after the other. If you don't, then there's a big chance that the fleas that have been left inside your house might jump back into your pet's fur, leaving you with an infested pet and house altogether.
Step 3. Clean and scrub all the surfaces where your pet usually loves to stay. Take out his little bed, wash and dry it. If he likes lying on your living room rugs, be sure to take those out and wash them as well. Scrub all hard surfaces like floors.
Step 4. Vacuum all over the house. Vacuuming can do wonders and can suck in adult larvae and some pupae. Make sure that you include nooks, crannies and crevices when you vacuum
Step 5. Take small dishes and fill them up with water and some dish washing liquid. Place small or floating candles in the middle of the liquid. Place these candles/dishes in strategic locations where your pet loves to stay. Fleas are attracted to light, and become mired eventually as they get near the light. They will fall into the liquid.
Step 6. Take out some borax and dust them on the surfaces. Wait for 24 hours before cleaning up.
Step 7. Repeat steps 4 to 6 for a couple of days.
Tips:
- Simultaneously treat your pet and home. This is to avoid recurring infestations.
- Be consistent and diligent in your efforts to eliminate fleas.
Warnings:
- Keep your children and pets away from the borax and don't allow them to play in areas where you have dusted it with.
- Use a face mask upon using borax, and never use it when there are people with respiratory illnesses or weak lungs around.
- While there are many insecticides that are effective for killing fleas, these are usually laden with powerful chemicals and should only be used as a last resort.
